2016: ‘Taking Our Relationship with and Service for God to the Next Level’
by Pastor Hartness (Senior Leader)
Reflection on 2015 (the Year of Continued enlargement)
Before I share our theme for 2016, I wish to begin by taking an opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to our Lord Jesus Christ who has kept and guided us through 2015. Like all the years that have gone since the inception of the church (MHC) in 2007, every year has seen more of the Lord’s blessing for the church. I would like to think that those of you with a reflective mind, after looking back, would agree that Millennium Harvest Church in many ways is in a better state both spiritually and in stature (outlook) than we were in the recent past. For example, while 2014 was a ‘year of enlargement’ in line with the theme for that year, 2015 saw too fulfilled its theme of ‘continuous enlargement’. One of the key highlights of 2015 has been the Holy Spirit-led acquisition of the new building. This achievement (blessing) is a testament of the family spirit we have at MHC; where both members and leaders work alongside me to take foward the mission and vision that God has entrusted me for our church.
Another key milestone has been the launch of the Serving Internship Programme. This programme has and continues to enable men and women to not only take up their service for God to another level, but to do so with greater understanding, willingness, unity and joy. These are some of the many accomplishments (blessings) we saw in 2015 that will change the mission and face of Millennium Harvest Church. Many of our members have experienced immense blessings from the Lord that have had positive impact in their personal lives through 2015. More has happened than what has been testified (shared publicly). However, as a leader and pastor, I have the opportunity of walking together and sharing life with the members of MHC family more closely. I therefore can affirm that many people in our church have had their lives transformed in many ways through Christ. Above all, many have confessed that they have seen immense spiritual growth throughout the year. That for me is an assurance that the church of God is achieving its mission.
Taking it to the Next Level in 2016
I am even more excited to share with you the focus for 2016 at Millennium Harvest Church. Our key collective focus for 2016 at MHC is to respond to Christ’s desire highlighted in Ephesians 4:12-13. We see in this scripture that Jesus has the heart;
to equip his people for works of SERVICE, so that the body of Christ may be built up, until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become MATURE, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ” NIV.
These verses show 2 critical aspects that are at the heart of Christ for the church. These are the qualities that our Lord expects of every one of His people. First is the understanding that His people should be a people of SERVICE. When we serve faithfully, sacrificially and effectively, we in turn contribute to the ‘building up of the body of Christ’ (which is His church). Second is the fact that His people should reach a level of ‘faith’ & ‘knowledge’ in God to become MATURE (becoming more like Christ) in their Christian walk and relationship with God and one another. Brothers and sisters in Christ there should be no regression or complacency (doing the same things and in the same way). Therefore, we will in 2016 take these two qualities of expressing our faith in the Lord to another level. We will adopt an assertive approach on how we serve, how we do mission and how we live our lives for Christ.
The three areas of focus that we are taking to the next level as a church and as individuals are:
- Sharing the Good News – For the church and its members to be active in sharing the gospel so that we can grow the church of God and His kingdom at large.
- Serving – To create an environment for more effective serving that enables people to step up and responsibly and effectively take responsibilities in the various facets of ministry within the church and beyond.
- Living the fullness of Christ – To intentionally mould our character and personality to reflect fruitfulness. Our relationship with God and others should be mature enough to reflect that we are God’s children.
Praying it to the Next Level in 2016
As we begin the year (2016) in prayer and fasting, we will be praying for the church and all areas of our personal lives so that we are more positioned to reach our spiritual, missional and personal objectives. It is through the power of the Holy Spirit that we can go to the next level. Intense Prayer (with fasting) is an important trigger for the working of the Holy Spirit in taking us to the next level.

Prayer (Points) Elaborated
- Church Growth
Praying for missions – that we are empowered for evangelism (sharing the Christian message) and for the Lord to direct more people to our church, especially those that have not yet encountered Christ – that is people from all backgrounds, race and ethnicities. We also wish for our church to grow in love and unity (oneness of purpose) (see John 13:34-35)
- Work of the Holy Spirit – God’s supernatural power
Praying for the working of the Holy Spirit in our church in bringing people to salvation, setting people free from the power of Satan, Baptisms of The Holy Spirit and the operating of spiritual gifts in our church. We want many people to experience the supernatural ability to pray in unlearned languages (tongues), interpret tongues, prophecy, exercise the gifts of healing etc. (1Corinthians 12 and Joel 2:28)
- Health matters
Praying for good health and the healing of sickness and disease in our lives and that of our families (Jeremiah 33:6)
- Money matters
Breaking the chains of debt and poverty, and that our members get blessed with high-paying employment opportunities, establishing/ running successful businesses and in turn be able to have hearts that are willing to help others and give more to Christ’s ministry and purposes on earth through the church so that the church can be financially empowered to achieve more and have no lack (Malachi 3:9-12, Haggai 2:8).
- Family matters
The family unit is part of God plan for people intended to bring about identity, support, pleasure e.t.c. Family mirrors the family that God intends for all humanity; with Him as the Father. Godly families are therefore happy families. Prayers for family will include but not limited to:
- Praying for all relationships within families to flourish in love, understanding, unity, support, peace e.t.c
- Praying for families and marriages in our church to flourish and be united.
- Praying and asking God to lead those that are seeking for marriage partners to find suitable partners.
- Praying for our none-Christian believing or none-Christian practicing/committed family members that- Christ reveals himself to them and show them his love, so that they can also believe, become saved and be committed to God through Christ, and enjoy the blessing and joy of having a relationship with Christ.
